Who we are
Destiny Shipping Agency Private Limited arranges the international movement of goods by sea. From our office in Kolkata we handle FCL and LCL sea freight, import and export customs clearance, NVOCC carriage, dangerous goods and refrigerated cargo, buyers consolidation and warehousing.
The company was incorporated in 2019, but the people behind it are not new to the trade. Our team has around two decades of experience in shipping, freight and customs, and works alongside several consultants and subject-matter experts who bring specialist depth where a shipment needs it.
What ties it together is a simple purpose: to meet each customer’s shipping requirements with service that is reliable, efficient and fairly priced, and to keep earning their trust shipment after shipment.
From the founder’s desk
When customers hand us their cargo, they hand us a piece of their business: an order they have promised, a production line waiting for parts, a season’s harvest that cannot wait. We never forget that.
Our team has spent two decades learning how international shipping really works: which carrier service will hold its schedule, how a customs file should be prepared so it clears the first time, what a hazardous or refrigerated consignment needs before it is safe to load. That experience is what we bring to every booking, large or small.
We are proud to work from Kolkata, a city that has traded with the world by river and sea for centuries. We carry that tradition forward with the same values it was built on: keep your word, know your trade, and look after your customer.

Kolkata, a city made by the river
Bengal has looked to the sea for as long as it has traded. Long before the modern city, the delta’s coast was home to Tamralipta, one of the great harbours of the ancient world, sending merchants and ships across the Bay of Bengal.
Kolkata grew from trading settlements on the banks of the Hooghly in the late seventeenth century, and became the commercial gateway to eastern India. Jute, tea, grain and manufactured goods passed through its docks; merchants, agents and shipping houses filled its streets.
That gateway still works today. The port, now Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port, is India’s only riverine major port, about 203 kilometres up the Hooghly from the sea. It serves a vast hinterland across eastern and north-eastern India, and carries trade for landlocked Nepal and Bhutan.

The Calcutta Port Act creates the Port Commissioners, putting the city’s growing river trade under one authority.
- 1892
The wet docks at Kidderpore open, giving ocean-going ships sheltered berths on the Hooghly.
- 1928
King George’s Dock is commissioned; renamed Netaji Subhas Dock in 1973, it now handles most of the port’s containers.
- 2019
Destiny Shipping Agency Private Limited is incorporated in Kolkata.
- 2020
The port is renamed Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port, continuing its work through the Kolkata Dock System and the Haldia Dock Complex.
This is the river we grew up on. Every shipment we arrange carries a little of that history with it.
